Remember Nickelodeon's old game show, GUTS, with all the games, obstacle courses and slime? (For a refresher, watch the video above.) Well, the show is getting a new lease on life, in an updated version that will most likely air next TV season. The new show, called My Family's Got GUTS will no doubt include a lot of the same elements as that old school fave, Family Double Dare.
And move over Mark Summers. Nickelodeon has tapped E! News movie expert, Ben Lyons, to host.

Pushing Daisies: What's the Haps for Season 2?

Nothing is more certain in the world of Pushing Daisies than non-touching kisses, murder, and oh yeah, pie. So, what's in store for season 2? Lots and lots of goodies. The spoilerific tidbits coming out of Comic Con include a plotline involving Olive living at a nunnery, Emerson facing ghosts from his past and erm, some of the most delicious guest stars to add to the entertaining cast of characters. Who, pray tell? Well, as mentioned before, Debra Mooney will guest as Emerson's mamma (!), Diana Scarwid (Wonderfalls) and as you'll see in the video below, French Stewart and Missi Pyle.

Everwood Star Will Be Pushing Up 'Daisies'

In what can only be called the greatest case of color-blind casting ever, Everwood alum, Debra Mooney, has been cast as Calista Cod, Emerson Cod's momma, on Pushing Daisies. Mooney will only appear on one episode, but there is potential for her to return. The storyline has Calista Cod, who used to be Emerson's partner in solving crime, visiting her son to help him with a case.
I don't know about you, but this casting coup has me giddy with excitement. I love my Everwood peeps and the idea of seeing Debra Mooney on the boob tube again has made my day!

Weeds: No Man is Pudding

Well, well, well. So we start off where we ended the last episode. Celia on the ground, with a gun pointed at her head. Guillermo asks her why she's there, and of all people, Nancy comes to her defense, by lying and telling him Celia is her associate. And then she grabs Guillermo's gun and smacks Celia around until one of her teeth fall out. Celia is not having a good season. But at least she's still alive.

Nency then takes her out to find Andy at the border crossing. But alas, Andy isn't there. And again, Celia gets the brunt of Nancy's anger, courtesy of a drive with her head in the car window that I'm sure would make anyone else barf all over the Prius. When they get that settled, Nancy gets back to finding Andy...

And what's our favorite Botwin uncle been up to? Oh nothing much. Just latching on to a coyote while making the trip back to the US. And his fee for crossing the border? Not much, if you think about it. Just $6 and his Fall Guyz belt buckle. But he soon finds out the others don't have it so lucky. The coyote is breaking arms, stealing money and exacting sexual favors. Andy decides to fight back since he still has the gun Nancy gave him. He pops the coyote in the knee, gets back his $6 and delivers an amusing punchline that, unfortunately, no one hears, "Who's the fall guy now, coyote ugly?"

Back home at Botwin Central, Bubbi's death and Lenny's disappearance allow the family to be more open with the weed business. Silas starts drilling a hole in the wall, only to discover a bee hive. The bees are none to happy about this turn of events and Shane, Silas and poor allergic Doug end up with the brunt of the stings.

Well, at least Nancy didn't get stung. At least, not yet. She blackmails Captain Till into conveniently "forgetting" about her and Celia. As for where she stands with Guillermo, he incorrectly assumes that Celia is Nancy's crazy lesbian lover. And then gives her a new job: manager of a women's maternity store.

Considering customer service is hardly Nancy's strong suit, I don't see this working to her advantage. And certainly not if there's a excavation going on underneath the store that gives off a distinct feeling of hell. WTF, indeed. So, what do you think is going on underneath the maternity store? And what exactly has Nancy gotten herself into?

Well, what would Diddy's all-white Hamptons party be without some Chuck and Blair action? While the terrible twosome look fairly cozy in this pic, don't expect their relationship to be smooth sailing next season. I'm hearing the duo will spend season 2 duking it out, in part because of Chuck's dalliances over the summer. Ah, music to my ears. Nothing disturbed me more than the lovey-dovey scene last year's finale.

Brenda Could Be Back!!!

The new re-do/spinoff/whatever of 90210 might just get a little bitchier. At least if Shannon Doherty has anything to say about it. According to EW's Ausiello, the temperamental actress is in talks with the producers at CW's most buzzed about show to come back to the zip code that made her famous.
According to Ausiello, the stalling point is three-fold. There's the ever-present issue of money, her actual storyline, and oh yeah, half the original cast hated her guts. The now infamous catfights between Jennie Garth, who's already agreed to guest star, and Doherty, could get another go-around. For her part, Garth says, "A lot of time has passed, and I'm a big girl. I'd have no problem with her coming on the show."
I guess only time will tell. And while we wait, let's hope the show gets Luke Perry on board. I tried to call him, but all I got was an answering machine with the message, "This is Dylan. You know the drill." Argh.

Weeds Episode 3: The Whole Blah Damn Thing

The third episode of season 4 was all about pulling the plug. Guillermo temporarily shut down his operation to switch to a new location. Doug left his Agrestic life behind after the city council discovered his insurance scheme. And of course, the Botwins debated assisted suicide for Bubbi.

Speaking of Bubbi, when we saw her last, the Jewish granny was begging for someone to kill her. Andy, who is scared of her Darth Vader breathing (heh), spent the episode trying to convince the family that they had to help her die. The usually off-kilter Botwin turned philosophical about life while in the pot-growing van. He said, "Just when you think you've got the whole blah-damn thing figured out and you're surrounded by the ones you blah, death shows up and blah, blah, blah." Wow, it's the yada, yada for the new millenium. Andy and Silas convince Shane to talk to Lenny (Albert Brooks) about pulling the plug. While that plan backfires and Shane gets cold feet, it does produce a sweet bonding moment between grandfather and grandson.

But bonding certainly isn't on Celia's mind. Still stuck in prison, she agrees to do anything to get out. Including spying on Nancy for the DEA. And dying her hair back to its original color because the DEA captain prefers his snitches blonde. I see where that storyline's going, and all I can say is yuck. But anyway, Celia breaks into Dean's hotel room to find clues on Nancy's whereabouts. Aah, modern technology. Izzy's cell phone leads her directly to Bubbi's beach house in Ren Mar.

Meanwhile, Nancy is reliving her disastrous trip to Mexico, courtesy of the the Jesus bobblehead doll's video camera. Guillermo makes the obvious jokes about Nancy's pee-in-a-cup moment and tells her to give up the slutty dresses for J.Crew attire. She gets another shot at the drug running, and this time, makes sure to look like she just finished teeing off at the country club. But nothing ever goes really smoothly for this pot-selling housewife. She finds out she's gonna have to stash drugs and Guillermo's cousin for the ride. And just when she finally makes it over the border, she realizes Guillermo has closed up shop. She drives around aimlessly until she winds up back at home. And this is no happy homecoming.
Andy tells her that Lenny and he have decided that they're gonna help Bubbi die but Nancy has to actually do it. After all, "Bubbi did say bringing not-Francie into the family would kill her." (heh) And then she gets a phone call from Guillermo to meet her outside. They do their business quickly. At least quickly enough that Celia, who's watching them from a nearby car, doesn't have time to snap a picture with her $5 disposable camera.

And so, Nancy, unaware that the sh-t is about to hit the fan, heads back inside to eulogize Bubbi. Well, sort of, considering she doesn't even know her real name. Nancy switches off the circuit breakers throughout the house until she gets the one for Bubbi's ventilator. But Bubbi's will to live may have to started to kick in at some point because she keeps on breathing. At least until Nancy asks Shane to bring her a pillow. Oh Nancy, you're leaving traces of your crimes everywhere you go...

On the Border...

In the second episode of the fourth season, we see Nancy getting ready for her first assignment as a trafficker for Guillermo. And when she tells Andy to be near a cell phone in case she needs something, he replies, "A rape kit? I don't think they sell those at Ralph's." Well, at least Andy has her best interests at heart.
But seriously, when she meets up with Guillermo, he and his crew gift her with a Jesus bobblehead doll for her dashboard. And then he tells her to cross the border to get her taillight fixed at a mechanic shop with a horse head design. So much for GPS. Nancy miraculously finds the shop and finds out she's gonna learn nothing about where they're stashing the drugs she's supposedly trafficking.
As for where the plot is going, the episode had an answer for that too. Nowhere fast. As evidenced by Nancy's 2-hour wait in the line to return to the US. She waited and waited and all we got was a funny little scene with her peeing in a plastic cup in the backseat of her car. And oh yeah, she got in trouble for not bringing her passport. Um, genius. Well after all that trouble, she learned that this entire trip was just to see how she'd react to the border patrol. And yes, Jesus is watching. Especially since the bobblehead in her car was actually a video camera. Hah! Nancy got incredibly pissed to which Guillermo responded with a tasteless joke about how the men who helped cause 9-11 weren't flying in airplanes for the first time that day. If that isn't the most blatant attempt at foreshadowing, I don't know what is.
Meanwhile, back in what was left of Agrestic, Celia is still behind bars and now with a street-worthy makeover (see above picture), most likely from her cellmate, Cheetah. And according to her lawyer, she's "f--ked like a stray cat in Chinatown." No one seems to really care about her in prison including her daughter, Isabel. That is until Mr. DEA Agent turns up with a picture of Nancy and Guillermo. Looks like someone's starting to believe in Celia's innocence.
And may I say, the inclusion of Albert Brooks as Judah and Andy's dad is a pure stroke of brilliance. His addiction to betting on horses, his open hatred of Andy and his ridiculous habit of not remembering people's names [Andy is not-Judah!]is hilarious. It's clear that all the tension in the beach house is going to come to a head at some point this season, but for now, seeing Andy seeth and tell Shane he's better off without a dad is both amusing and sad. Oh, and then there's Bubbi, who gets off the ventilator long enough to say, "Kill me," in Yiddish. Next week's previews show us she just might get her wish with Nancy playing the role of Dr. Kavorkian.

Sandcastles in the Sand

The whole world, from Alberta to Ontario, feels Robin Sparkle's pain. Robin's teen idol alter ego makes another appearance in tonight's episode of How I Met Your Mother. The former Canadian pop star shares the story of how her first boyfriend, Simon, (played by James Van Der Beek) broke up with her after a week and a half of bliss. Simon waits until Robin loads up his van after one of his band gigs to tell her he's getting back together with an old girlfriend. Needless to say, we get an earful of the Canada jokes ("So he just wasn't Inuit?"), as the gang tries to understand why she's STILL in love with the Beek, when he now looks like a middle-aged farmer with a beer belly. In case anyone's wondering, apparently it's a serious form of associative regression, or as Marshall calls it- "revertigo". heh.

So, because Robin is not a student of history, she agrees to go out on a date with Simon again, and pays the price with a massive case of deja vu. Simon breaks up with her AGAIN right after one of his gigs just as she's loading his van with musical equipment.

So, um, Robin is sad. And like a moth to flame, the Barnacle smells the tears of a desperate woman from a mile away. OK, so it didn't quite go down like that, but Barney goes through the unlikely task of comforting Robin. And Miss Sparkles rewards Barney with the greatest gift of all- the music video of her B-side- "Sandcastles in the Sand." Barney's best line of the night: "If you edit this, you've got a tampon commercial in there." heh.

And now, the kicker. Robin honors him with the second best gift of the night: a kiss and most likely...more. Personally, I'm excited about the exponential awesomeness of coupling these laser tag and cigar buddies. But how do you feel? Share your thoughts below.

Friday Night Lights- Next Season is ONLY 13 eps

According to TV Guide's Ausiello, next season's Friday Night Lights is definitely only going to be for 13 episodes. According to show EP, Jason Katims, the NBC/DirecTV deal only allows the shortened season. He also says, "We're going to be almost finished shooting these episodes before they air on DirecTV, and we'll definitely be done shooting these before they get on NBC. So the shows will have aired and I'm sure DirecTV and NBC will want to have a little time to gauge how this is all working and see what the future holds."

As for the cast, they will all be back for next year's season. Gotta be happy about that, but no hope for a back 9 sorta makes this all so bittersweet.

New Kids on the Block made a surprise appearance on the Today Show this morning. And I gotta say, even though I never loved their music as much as perhaps some of their other fans, it was a pleasant surprise to see the gang all dressed up and looking more manly than boy band-ish.
The guys talked about their reunion performance on the Today Show May 16th, a new album out this summer and a tour this fall. And so, there you have it. Off to sleep, my little muffins, with visions of Jordan crooning and Joey dancing in your heads.

Doogie Love

So, I have been remiss with the How I Met Your Mother recap from this week's ep, The Bracket, but only because I just wanted to savor every delicious moment from the show. From the ode to March Madness with Barney's bracket of wronged ladies to the Doogie homage, I teared up from this show's brilliance. As much as Barney acts like a major slimeball with his horrible one-night stand stories, I just can't seem to hate this fellow blogger. In Monday's episode, we followed Barney as he tried to figure who the mystery girl messing up his game was. We revisited his past, from Meg, the apartment girl, to Anna, the tedmosbyisajerk girl. And, you gotta love the creative force behind this show! Be sure to check tedmosbyisajerk.com, and be prepared to be awed at its genius. And after all that, what did we learn about this mystery girl? She's blonde. That's pretty much all we got, but damn was it a fun ride.

Just kidding. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer reunion panel at The Paley Festival last night was anything but. Full of gorgeous actors and actresses (holy crackers, Charisma Carpenter!), and plenty of hugs and laughter. In other words, there was no slayage in sight.
Attendees were treated to some Whedon goodness including all the actors from the show, except for Alyson Hannigan. They talked about the fantastic-ness of the Buffy-verse and listened to fans talk about how the show changed/saved their lives. "I'm ringing all over!"

FNL is Almost Saved!!!

The biggest news at last night's Friday Night Lights' panel at the Paley Festival wasn't Scott Porter's pelvic thrust (more on that later!), but rather that it looks like FNL is thisclose to coming back for a third season!

This is soooooo insanely fantastic. The panel included chat about the show's take on race relations, the lack of actual football this season and what a new season can mean for this year's seniors.
Let's tackle the last topic first. (Tackle, get it? Yeah, I know it was lame.) Showrunner Jason Katims says the show is known for being real and the seniors who would have graduated this year won't still be in school in the next season. But, he loves the core cast and hopes he can find a place for them. He also sees a lot more football in the future. As for the race problems for Gaius Charles' character, Smash, Katims promises there will be some form of closure.
OK, I teased it enough. If I had you at pelvic thrust, then you'll be happy to know that Scott Porter reenacted his dancing abilities from Music & Lyrics. Pop goes my heart!

Beverly Hills, 90210 Redux

The CW is getting ready to revisit the most famous zip code in the US. The network is fast-tracking a spin-off of Beverly Hills, 90210 that will be helmed by Veronica Mars creator, Rob Thomas. The new show will follow the Mills, a new family that moves into the neighborhood. Harry Mills is a former 90210-er who reluctantly moves his family back into the area to be the principal at Beverly Hills High. And his kids won't be living the rich life. People is reporting one or both of them will be working at the local movie theater. And the theater? Why Silver Screens Theater is owned by none other than the Silver family- a familiar name to fans of the original series. And get ready for a guest-star or two from the show's past! Can't wait for Luke Perry's Dylan to haunt the halls of this newest teen soap!

Get ready to see some familiar faces coming to a TV near you! No, I'm not talking about Britney Spears' new guesting gig on How I Met Your Mother. I'm talking about people that can actually ACT. For example:

~~Mallory Keaton~~, err, I mean Justine Bateman, is about make herself very comfortable on Wisteria Lane. The former Family Ties actress will have a multi-episode arc on Desperate Housewives as a hippy artist living with Gabby and Carlos. New episodes will air on ABC starting April 13th.

Jason Lewis, of Sex and the City fame has just been cast on an episode of House. According to TV Guide's Michael Ausiello, Lewis will play a soap opera star who displays odd symptoms on air. Dr. House, who is an avid fan of daytime soaps, notices and sets about solving the mystery.

Talk about genius casting and a hilarious House storyline!

So, as anyone who knows me can tell you, I am downright ecstatic about Season 3 of Party of Five being released this month. And, of course, since I'm never completely satisfied, I thought about what other shows I'd love to see get a DVD release. According to tvshowsondvd.com, the Top 10 DVDs that people want to see are:

WB Lives On

The WB is getting a second life on the web! Warner Brothers has announced it will release the now defunct TV channel's library of shows online on wb.com. Some shows that will be airing on the website include Gilmore Girls, Everwood and What I Like About You. The site will also have original content mainly geared towards the old WB audience of 12-34 year old women. You can expect to see a beta version available next month.
Way to go Warner's! Even Michigan T. Frog is proud...

Desperate for Dinner

The folks over at Deadline Hollywood Daily just reported that one of my favorite shows will most likely get a third season! NBC appears to have struck a tentative deal with DirecTV to share the costs and distribution windows for the show. This pretty much made my morning, and reaffirmed my belief that, "Full eyes, Clear Hearts, Can't Lose!"

Final Four on the Catwalk

New York Fashion Week: a time to look for news styles on runway, grab as many free goody bags as you can carry and of course, check out the collections of the final four contestants of Project Runway.

The final four presented their shows today, and I am bitterly disappointed. It's not that there weren't good pieces, but the stuff I liked were from my least favorite designers: Uli and the dreaded Jeffrey. Ugh.

Michael and Laura presented shows that built upon their best wins. Michael showcased an entire collection of Pam Greer-inspired crazines and Laura did up some black eyelet dresses a la last week's winning piece. Did I mention I was disappointed?

Uli kept true to herself and made dresses with enough printed material to make half of a wildlife conservation jealous. Meanwhile, Jeffrey shocked me because as much as I hate his designs up to now, I actually appreciated the rocker chic vibe that resonated throughout his show. Ugh, I hate myself for saying that. ABC Giving Away 1 Million iTunes Downloads!

ABC is offering one million downloads of the Lost, Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy season finales in an effort to encourage viewers to catch up before the new TV season begins. It is also offering unlimited downloads of special highlight shows for all of the three series. The download giveaway begins at midnight on September 14th (tomorrow).

This year's Project Runway candidates are revealing their collections in a couple of days at New York Fashion Week. But Runway veteran Daniel Franco beat them to the punch by finally putting out a collection of his own yesterday. His show, which was sponsored by Nikon, included mostly two-toned dresses. "As a designer it is imperative to appease your audience and produce cutting edge fashion," Daniel said in a press release. "My clothing line offers me a chance to express my fashionable designs which have been inspired by Nikon's COOLPIX Style Series Cameras."

It's not you, it's me. No, wait, it IS you. I cheated on you a few times last year by watching Veronica Mars first and keeping you on my DVR. But then I realized that Veronica was much more thrilling. She had guts. She gave up the info when needed but kept some aside to keep me watching. Best of all, Veronica Mars is smarter than me. By now, you've heard that Ben Whofleck might actually be able to act, especially considering the buzz surrounding his role in tomorrow's movie release, Hollywoodland. And it turns out Jessica Biel isn't just badgirl eyecandy as evidenced in her performance in The Illusionist. So, this got me thinking, who else can break through the paparazzi barriers and treacly primetime prisons to prove they've got the acting chops that Oscar dreams are made of? In other words, who are we underestimating?

If I were to make an intelligent guess (because let's be honest, I'm not gonna sit around watching crap to gauge moments of brilliance), I'd say keep an eye out for Sarah Ramos. She may be young, but with roles in American Dreams and the CW's upcoming Runaway, she's got a decent amount of experience under her belt. And while she tends to play annoying little sisters, she can still make you feel sympathy for her situation. And since I predict Runaway won't last past a few episodes, she'll be free to move onto juicier big screen roles that won't involve her hawking Campbell's Soup.

If you happened to go to the movies recently, you might have seen a TV commercial for Old Navy starring Kristin Bell (if not, check it here). But why did she think kissing an inanimate object named "Fash" would endear her to teenage America? And since when does she wear Old Navy?

The second season of Weeds premiered last night on Showtime, and Nancy, my favorite pot-dealing momma is right where we left her last season. After sleeping with Peter, she realizes he's really part of the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency). Um, woops. Nancy then stupidly tells Conrad about her mistake and he renegs on their new partnership. Puhlease, Conrad, anyone with half a brain knows you'll be back for more hurtin'. And if Nancy's bedroom follies aren't enough to get you hooked, this jam-packed episode also includes the love-sick puppy, Sanjay, burning down Nancy's bakery so she can collect the insurance money and a sideplot with Celia deciding to run against Doug for the city council seat. I personally can't wait to see the mud-slinging in local Agrestic politics. I have a feeling it'll be super ticky-tacky...

The Kumars at No. 42

Ever watched a show that is so outrageous, you can't help but wonder how it got greenlit? And then wondered how it became so successful? And then realized that you can't take your eyes off it? Well, that's me and the brassy British comedy, The Kumars at No. 42. The show is about a Anglo-Indian family that has turned their home into a TV talkshow set. The family does group interviews of their celebrity guests, with each family member playing off some Indian stereotype. The mom shoves mountains of food at every guest, and tries to get her son married off. The father is obsessed with money. But the show-stealer is grandma, a friendly woman with a very dirty mind and knack for the inappropriate. Free Shows are back for ABC

ABC will be airing free shows again on its online broadband player after what it says was a successful test run in May and and June. As part of its new offering, the network will offer more shows for a shorter period of time. In addition, there will be longer commercials.
In the player's initial run, ABC offered free viewings of episodes of Lost, Desperate Housewives, Alias and Commander in Chief. Lost was the most viewed program and will continue to be offered on the player. The most likely candidates to join Lost on the broadband player are some of ABC's new dramas and perhaps even a half-hour comedy.

Sign Over Your Paychecks

As if it isn't hard enough to scrape some money together for your favorite TV on DVD sets, the studios have decided to gouge our wallets completely with those Complete Series Collections. You know what I'm talking about! Those DVD sets that include extra bonus features that the individual season sets don't offer. The Alias Complete Series, which comes out November 21st, is offering a feature booklet and a bonus disc of goodies. Friends: The One with All Ten Seasons will include a 60-page commemorative book in addition to all the 236 episodes from 10 seasons. It is released on November 14th, less than a year after Warner Bros. released Season 10. The West Wing: The Complete Series, which comes out November 7th, will include the original pilot script and an introduction with Aaron Sorkin. So, what happens if you bought an individual set before the complete series was announced? Well, you have two options: be happy with what you got, or suck it up and fork over that hard-earned cash to those greedy studios...

This is the X-Men and Superman Returns director's first TV deal, but he does have experience on the small screen. Looks like the Lost island is about to get another scorching hot castaway. Rodrigo Santoro just got cast for the third season, according to TV Guide's Ausiello. You may have seen the Brazilian megastar in Laura Linney's love interest in Love, Actually or as a bad surfer guy in Charlie's Angels: Full ThrottleAccording to Lost's executive producer, Damon Lindeloff, Santoro was exactly what they were looking for. "He's a guy who's perfect for Lost because he's a face that the American audience is not familiar with, but he's been in the business long enough, you know, [that he's also] an awesome actor that makes some really interesting choices," he said. I'm not one for pageants, but this brilliant little bit of synergy has made me giddier than I've been in weeks. If you watched Project Runway on Bravo (owned by NBC Universal) last week, you saw designer Kayne make the winning evening gown for Miss USA Tara Connor's appearance in the Miss Universe pageant. And last night, NBC and NBC-owned Telemundo broadcast the pageant live. Unlike previous winning dresses on Project Runway (bad, bad Nancy O'Dell!), this gown was barely altered for Connor's strut down the catwalk. I guess it was good karma because she was fourth runner-up!

NBC will offer a sneak peek of their new sci-fi drama, Heroes, on Yahoo a few days before it officially premieres on TV. For those of you who don't know, Heroes is about a group of people who discover that they have superpowers and how their new-found powers affect their lives. (I got to see the pilot (one-hour version) a few days ago and will be posting my review soon.)
NBC is aggressively marketing its serials this year, with advance screenings of a 72 minute version of the Heroes pilot at Comic-Con and a partnership with Netflix to offer full-length pilot previews of Studio 60 and Kidnapped. No doubt, the peacock is tired of being the 4th place network.

Everwood Ferris Wheel Event

Fans of Everwood won't let a good show die. A group of loyal watchers have been working on an event for the past few months to remember the show and encourage its release on DVD. If you watched the finale of Everwood, you know how Amy proclaimed her love for Ephram with a ferris wheel. Well fans are recreating the magic right near The CW headquarters! The event takes place tomorrow which (wink, wink) coincides with the TCA press tour. With plenty of reporters available to check out the action, the fans who planned the event will offer free ferris wheel rides and read letters about what Everwood meant to them. Appearances are expected from Everwood's creator Greg Berlanti, executive producer Rina Mimoun and Ephram himself, Gregory Smith. Location: The Parking Lot of Robert Louis Stevenson Elementary School 3333 West Oak St., Burbank, California 91505.

Ugly Betty

So, you may have heard of a new ABC show called ~~Betty the Ugly~~ Ugly Betty. I mentioned the show back during upfronts as something that I'd like to check out this fall. Well, according to most of the critics who have seen full pilots (trust me, I'm trying to get my grubby little paws on a copy) this show is shaping up to be the best of ABC's fall slate offering. With a cast that stars America Ferrara, Vanessa Williams, Eric Mabius and Alan Dale, this show about a young Latina girl who wants to make it in the fashion industry, sounds like a fun, feel-good ride. NBC Netflix Alliance

Netflix subscribers rejoice! NBC has announced that it will offer previews of two of the net's fall primetime series through the online movie rental service. The previews will be available six weeks before the shows premiere on NBC. One of the shows will be Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, an hour-long drama starring Bradley Whitford and Matthew Perry. Desperate Housewives with a Cherry on Top

ABC Entertainment chief, Stephen McPherson, promises Desperate Housewives will be better in its third season after a creative stumble in Season 2. At the ABC session at the TCA tour, he said show creator, Marc Cherry, has revitalized the new season despite being the sole executive producer. "Marc has taken over 100 percent of the show-running and that's been a terrific change," he said. "The early scripts and the story lines and arcs and the mystery are a lot stronger from the get-go." After a dismal second season, that can't be too hard...

Daytime Divas

Oprah is not gay in case there's anyone out there wondering. The talk show queen uses the August issue of her O magazine to say she and her best friend, Gayle King, are not lovers. In the magazine Oprah says, "I understand why people think we're gay," she says. "There isn't a definition in our culture for this kind of bond between women." I don't know about you, but best friend suffices for me...

And I happened to be perusing The Slug's website, and noticed he got The View scoop. Apparently, Star Jones-Reynolds least favorite co-host is making a comeback. E! correspondent, Debbie Matenopoulos, is heading back to her roots and the East Coast for some hot topics. I wonder if she'll get a chance to offer her two cents on Star's hasty retreat?

Mac is Back!

One of my favorite Veronica Mars sidekicks will be around Neptune for another season. Tina Majorino, who plays Cindy "Mac" MacKenzie, is back as the switched at birth computer whiz who is, by her own admission, the Q to Veronica's Bond. Majorino has signed on to be a series regular for the third season but she won't be every episode. Next season, we'll see Mac try to deal with a new roommate at Hearst College who is her exact opposite.

On a total side note, how fantastic is Tina looking these days?!? You'd barely think she's the little girl from Corrina, Corrina or Andre...

What Came First?

In CBS' case, the egg came first in terms of advertising. In a press release distributed during Saturday's session of the TCA tour, the eye network says it will, "Hatch First of Its Kind 'Egg-vertising' Campaign for New Fall Shows." What does that mean exactly? Well, it could be that the next time you decide to make an omelet, you'll have to crack an egg that says "CBS Mondays: Funny Side Up" or "The Amazing Race: Scramble to Win on CBS." That's right. CBS has teamed up with a company called EggFusion that will print advertising slogans on 35 million eggs in September. All I can say is, what a yolk!

Fantasia's Life No Fairy Tale

American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino is the star of a telepic based on her autobiograpy. The TV movie, titled Life is Not a Fairy Tale, premieres on Lifetime on August 19. The movie chronicles how Barrino dropped out of high school and became an unwed mother at 17. The film also includes a rape scene that Barrino had a lot of difficulty reenacting, but felt was therapeutic. "At the end, I began to cry and I said, 'I went through all those things, but I know why I share my life.' I'm thankful that I was able to do it."

Sounds a heck of a lot better than From Justin to Kelly, doesn't it?

J.J. says goodbye to Touchstone

Uber-producer, J.J. Abrams, is saying goodbye to his fruitful relationship with Disney-owned Touchstone Television. Abrams will move over to Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. TV with a six-year deal worth more than $55 million. The move comes as a suprise since under the Touchstone banner, Abrams produced such gems as Felicity, Alias and LOST. However, Abrams recently produced Mission: Impossible 3 with Paramount. Abrams own production company, Bad Robot, will relocate outside of Disney's lot.

As you may have heard, it's Television Critics' Association press tour time. This is when networks offer critics a chance to question their stars about the upcoming fall TV season. Tears, isanity, psychotic episodes, they all tend to happened during the TCA tour and of course, this year was no exception. But sometimes, the oddness hits all time highs. Case in point: Mr. T's new advice show on TV Land called I Pity the Fool. That's right, that Mr. T. And the 80s icon who first introduced the masses to bling promises his show is unique. "My show ain't no 'Dr. Phil' where people sit around crying, 'What's wrong with me?' You a fool! That's what's wrong with you!" I guess the T stands for tough love...

Casting Couch

Looks like Rachael Harris is having the Best. Week. Ever. The actress just joined the cast of "Evan Almighty 2" opposite Steve Carell and "License to Wed" opposite John Krasinski. No doubt she'll be getting some Office lovin' soon enough. She will also star in the new ABC sitcom "Notes from the Underbelly" this fall.

Peter Krause is headed back to TV this December. He will star in the event series The Lost Room for the SciFi channel. Krause was just nominated for the Emmy for best actor in a drama for his work on the last season of Six Feet Under.

Moving on Up...to the Networks

Ah, nothing like synergy to make your head spin (or choke on breakfast). NBC has announced that the first two episodes of season 3 of Project Runway will reair on the network. Runway, which normally airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on Bravo, can be seen again on NBC Mondays at 8 p.m. (NBC is Bravo's parent company.)
This marketing strategy has already been utilized more than once this summer season, as nets pull out all the stops to win ratings in what has tunred into a year-long TV season. ABC has reaired episodes of ABC Family show, Kyle XY, and FOX has aired episodes of FX's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. What next? Will CBS skew young with episodes of The Real World?

Well, just when you were going through vintage TV withdrawal, ION Media Networks seals a programming deal with Warner Bros., securing broadcast rights to several TV shows and movies. ION, which owns the i channel (formerly PAX), will air classic episodes of The Wonder Years, in addition to popular family series such as Growing Pains, Perfect Strangers and Mama's Family. "i" begins airing the Warner Bros. TV shows in August. My, my, just when I thought this channel only offered shows about pet miracles...

Project Runway's third season kicks off tonight with a casting special at 9 p.m. and the season premiere at 10 p.m. This addictive reality show competition to find the best fashion designer is absolutely hilarious and just got nominated for its second Emmy! Between Heidi Klum's hotness and Michael Kor's bitchiness, this show is turning into Bravo's signature piece. The 30-year old (holy crap, 30!) actress will tout CoverGirl's latest makeup offering, Outlast Double Lipshine, in a TV ad that will air this month. Russell told AP that the commercial, in which she fights ninjas, played off of her role in Mission Impossible 3.
Ah, but we all know how indecisive our favorite college grad can be. What shade will she wear: Rose Quartz or Party Pink?!?!

Lost: A Season for Sex

The third season of Lost will be chock full of sex, if executive producer, Carlton Cuse, has anything to do with it. "It is organically the time where they can have relationships," he told Broadcast. "I am promising sex and hopefully it will be gratuitous."
Don't get me wrong. Seeing a little Foxy flesh would make my day, but "gratuitous" part brings bad images to mind. Sex should be part of the character development, not a ratings stunt. And not to mention that island sex hasn't exactly done wonders for Shannon or Ana Lucia...
